Who we are
The State Key Laboratory of pollution Control and Resource Reuse offers Ph.D in 7 programs and has 3 national key subjects including Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science and Municipal Engineering, and we are jointly supported by both Tongji University and Nanjing University. The lab was approved by the State Planning Commission in 1989 and established after the state acceptance in 1995. The Lab passed the national assessments in every 5 years respectively in 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015.
Vision
To be the premier research and development laboratory in environmental compound pollution control and resource reuse applications that delivers the science and technology to understand the pollution mechanism and the impacts of environmental compound pollution, to control pollution. To be a leader in innovative talents development, international collaboration, outreach and disciplinary development, the lab will become a globally recognized national key lab.
Mission
To meet domestic and international demands in the management and reuse of wastewater and solid waste disposal; to deliver the strategy and research in environmental pollution control; to build an expertise team to explore the complex process mechanism and effects of environmental pollution, to offer the innovative methodologies and methods on pollution control and resource reuse; to develop technologies with independent intellectual property rights in the fields of management and reuse of advanced wastewater treatment, industrial wastewater treatment and MSW; to grow the Lab to be a globally recognized environment research and technology platform, an international collaboration center and an innovative talents development base.
Research fields
1、Environmental behaviors and ecological impacts of pollutants
Primary research focuses on the multimedia environmental and chemical behaviors of toxic and hazardous pollutants including undiscovered organic pollutants, persistent pollutants, and their combined pollution, the environmental behaviors of pollutants in complex systems as well. Moreover, the Lab provides the understanding of the biological effects and mechanism of toxication of undiscovered organic pollutants and the assessment of the effects to environmental health. Furthermore, the lab offers the theoretical support to trace high-risk substances and control the risk in complex polluted water environment.
2、Water pollution control and resource reuse
The Lab focuses on the study of principles and technologies for pollution control and resource utilization of high-concentration organic wastewater, high-toxicity composite industrial wastewater, urban sewage phosphorus and nitrogen removal, toxic substances, sludge treatment and resource utilization, and develops new purify materials and technologies for heavy metals and other toxic removal.
3、Solid waste disposal and resource reuse
The Lab develops the new technologies for odor release control of waste landfills, biological treatment of landfill leachate, heavy metal stabilization in MSW disposal and recycle, and end-treatment secondary pollution control.
4、Environment remediation and watershed pollution control
The Lab builds the models to study the watershed pollution control and develops technologies for watershed pollution control of heavily-contaminated rivers, lakes and watershed remediation, urban water environment restoration and comprehensive remediation. The lab studies the long-term environmental management mechanism for watershed pollution control to comprehensively improve the water environment quality.
5、Environmental health and risk control
The Lab studies the health hazards and risks caused by environmental pollution in typical areas/basins, and provides techniques for high-throughput hazard screening, risk assessment, and risk prevention, and provide the strategies for risk control and blocking, and provides the environmental quality benchmark in line with the features of China’s ecological environment and population, so as to solve major environmental issues and health risk management in China.
