The graduate-level textbook "Treatment and Recycling of Solid Wastes" (2nd Edition), compiled by Zhao Youcai, Zhou Tao, Chen Bo, and others from CESE, with Niu Dongjie serving as the chief reviewer, was officially published and distributed by Tongji University Press in November 2024.
Since the publication of its first edition in 2015, this textbook has been well-received by teachers and students, achieving significant social benefits. In recent years, rapid advancements have been made in solid waste treatment and resource recovery technologies both domestically and internationally, with numerous new concepts, theories, and processes emerging and being widely applied in engineering projects. To address these developments, with funding support from the Tongji University Textbook Fund, the compilation team conducted a comprehensive and systematic update and revision of the first edition. The updated content includes new chapters on landfill waste utilization, fly ash melting, environmental health prevention and control, organic waste treatment, industrial solid waste management, electronic waste recycling, artificial intelligence applications, and carbon peak and neutrality initiatives. The textbook provides a thorough description of various methods, principles, processes, new technologies, new methods, and new theories related to solid waste treatment and resource recovery. It features a complete structure, a clear main thread, and is richly illustrated, highlighting engineering technologies and innovative thinking.
This textbook maintains relative independence in content from the undergraduate textbooks "Treatment and Recycling of Solid Wastes" (4th Edition) and "Experiments in Treatment and Recycling of Solid Wastes" (2nd Edition), as well as the doctoral-level textbook "Principles and Technologies of Treatment and Recycling of Solid Wastes" (1st Edition). However, they are highly complementary and can be read in conjunction to gain a comprehensive knowledge system.
