To advance reforms in environmental talent development, the College of Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE) held a seminar on March 19, 2025, focused on teaching innovation and talent cultivation. The seminar brought together Mr. Zhou Shangjiu, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee; Professor Xie Li, Director of the Department of Environmental Engineering; and more than ten young faculty members under the age of 39, who are set to participate in the 2025 Tongji University Young Teachers' Teaching Competition. The event was moderated by Professor Liu Jia, Deputy Director of the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering.
The discussion cantered on the challenges and opportunities surrounding the reform of talent cultivation in environmental disciplines, with particular attention to the development of new majors, innovative curricula, and the enhancement of instructional skills. Young teachers actively shared their ideas and proposals for advancing teaching quality and aligning education with the evolving demands of the field. The upcoming university-wide teaching competition was viewed as a valuable platform to strengthen pedagogical capabilities. Professor Xie Li encouraged junior faculty to learn from experienced educators through classroom observation and peer exchange. In his closing remarks, Mr. Zhou Shangjiu praised the passion and insight demonstrated by the young teachers and emphasized the importance of their active engagement in teaching reforms and long-term pedagogical growth.
CESE announced plans to soon release the "Implementation Plan for the Preliminary Round of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering Young Teachers' Teaching Competition," alongside a series of related activities aimed at enhancing instructional proficiency. Through these initiatives, the college seeks to provide continuous support and development opportunities to help young educators refine their teaching practices and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of environmental education.
