On April 15, 2025, the College of Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE) successfully held the "Seminar on the Transformation of University Scientific and Technological Achievements and the Development of the Environmental Protection Industry." The event served as a collaborative platform, bringing together representatives from state-owned and central enterprises, along with numerous alumnus entrepreneurs. Discussions focused on key themes including the integration of academic disciplines with enterprise development, the technological needs driving the environmental protection industry, and effective pathways for transforming scientific research into practical applications.
The seminar also featured the Tongji Environmental Protection Industry Summit Forum and explored new models for university-enterprise collaboration. These efforts aimed to establish a long-term exchange mechanism to foster innovation and accelerate the implementation of scientific breakthroughs. By bridging the gap between research institutions and industrial stakeholders, the event underscored CESE’s commitment to advancing the green economy and contributing to China's broader goals of ecological civilization and sustainable development.
The seminar was attended by Professor Xu Bin, Secretary of the College Party Committee; Professor Wang Zhiwei, Dean of the college; Professor Wu Deli, Vice Dean; and Professor Zheng Xiong, Vice Dean, reaffirming CESE’s leadership in shaping environmentally focused academic-industry partnerships.

During the panel discussion of the “Seminar on the Transformation of University Scientific and Technological Achievements and the Development of the Environmental Protection Industry,” participating entrepreneurs drawing from their rich industry experience and insight into current trends shared thoughtful perspectives on the transformation of scientific research, key industrial needs, and strategies for fostering collaborative growth between the college and alumnus-led enterprises. Their contributions brought forth a series of valuable suggestions aimed at aligning academic output with real-world environmental challenges.
Vice Dean Zheng Xiong emphasized that the college would fully leverage its academic platforms and top-tier talent pool to carry out more targeted research that resonates with the evolving technological demands of enterprises and the broader direction of industrial development.
The seminar concluded with remarks from Dean Wang Zhiwei and Party Secretary Xu Bin. Wang expressed his aspiration for the seminar to serve as a strong communication bridge between academia and industry. He underscored the importance of regular, high-quality dialogue in harmonizing strengths, capturing trends, meeting real-world demands, and promoting integrated development. He highlighted that both universities and enterprises bear a shared responsibility in advancing national strategic priorities.
Xu Bin, speaking on behalf of the college, extended his gratitude to the attendees for their active participation and meaningful input. He stressed that the college would carefully reflect on and respond to suggestions raised by the panel such as enhancing "open interconnection," adopting "systems thinking," and promoting "mechanism innovation." He affirmed that CESE remains committed to staying attuned to industry hotspots, encouraging proactive transformation, and driving forward mutually beneficial and collaborative progress between the academic and industrial sectors.
