The First Meeting of the Seventh Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Water Pollution Control and Green Resource Recycling Held Successfully

On May 7, 2025, the First Meeting of the Seventh Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Water Pollution Control and Green Resource Recycling was successfully held in Shanghai. This session also marked the first Academic Committee meeting following the laboratory’s restructuring. The meeting brought together a distinguished assembly of experts and leaders in the environmental science and engineering field.

The Academic Committee specially invited consulting expert Academician Hou Li’an. Committee members in attendance included renowned academicians such as Yang Zhifeng, Wu Fengchang, Qu Jiuhui, Duan Ning, Wang Chao, Liu Wenqing, Zhu Lizhong, Xu Zuxin, Ren Hongqiang, Wu Minghong, and Yu Hanqing, along with Professors Hu Qing, Wang Zhiwei, and Zhao Yu. Lu Gang, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission and Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Zone, was also present and provided guidance during the proceedings.

The meeting saw participation from over 70 individuals, including leaders from the functional departments of Tongji University among them Academician Zheng Qinghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji University; Academician Tong Xiaohua, Vice President of Tongji University; and Professor Li Bin, Assistant to the President of Nanjing University. Also attending were Feng Shijin, Dean of the Science and Technology Research Institute of Tongji University, and Zhan Dechuan, Deputy Dean of the Science and Technology Research Institute of Nanjing University. Representatives from the Executive Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Zone, including Liu Wei, Minister of the Ecological Planning and Construction Department, and Li Cheng, Deputy Minister, participated in the meeting, along with Wang Yongchun, Deputy General Manager of the Demonstration Zone New Development and Construction Co., Ltd. Leaders of the environmental colleges from both Tongji and Nanjing Universities and key laboratory researchers were also present.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Feng Shijin, Dean of the Science and Technology Research Institute of Tongji University. During the event, speeches were delivered by Academician Zheng Qinghua, Lu Gang, and Professor Li Bin. Vice President Tong Xiaohua and Professor Li Bin formally presented appointment letters to the newly appointed members of the Academic Committee, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in the laboratory’s academic governance and collaborative innovation efforts.

Professor Wang Zhiwei from CESE, representing the laboratory, delivered the annual work report, highlighting the progress made in construction and development following the laboratory's restructuring. Key young academic members Professor Huang Lei, Professor Chu Huaqiang, Associate Professor Yin Ran, and Associate Professor Zhong Shifa each gave academic presentations showcasing recent research achievements. The Academic Committee members expressed full recognition of the laboratory’s accomplishments over the past year. They also offered insightful recommendations on strengthening research capacity, fostering talent, enhancing social service contributions, expanding international cooperation, improving resource mobilization, and deepening collaboration between Tongji University and Nanjing University. The meeting played a pivotal role in setting the future direction of the laboratory and identifying key tasks to guide its continued development.
