On April 26, 2025, the 20th National Environment-friendly Science & Technology Competition officially commenced with a launch ceremony held at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University. This prestigious competition is co-sponsored by Tsinghua University, the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Tongji University, and Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. Tsinghua University took the lead in organizing the event, supported by institutions such as the Tsinghua Suzhou Institute for Environmental Innovation and Tsinghua X-lab.
The ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including Wang Can, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Environment at Tsinghua University; Wang Zhiwei, Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tongji University; Cao Hongwei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Environmental and Municipal Engineering at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology; Wu Lei, Director of the Science Popularization Department of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences; Yue Dongbei, Vice Dean of the School of Environment at Tsinghua University; Yang Yong, Assistant to the Director of the Science Popularization Department of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences; and He Weiqi, Director of the Environmental Big Data Science Center at the Tsinghua Suzhou Institute for Environmental Innovation.
During the opening remarks, Wang Can, Wang Zhiwei, and Cao Hongwei each delivered congratulatory speeches, expressing their support and high expectations for this milestone 20th edition of the competition. Their remarks highlighted the importance of youth engagement in environmental innovation and science popularization.
The event proceeded with the leaders and guests collectively taking the stage to officially inaugurate the competition. This symbolic gesture marked the beginning of another chapter in advancing eco-friendly science and technology education and innovation in China.
Following the launch, the 20th Anniversary Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum was held, featuring insightful academic and professional contributions. Key speakers included He Weiqi from the Tsinghua Suzhou Institute, Chu Biwu from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wu Qianyuan from the Shenzhen International Graduate School of Tsinghua University, Li Zehui from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Lin Weichen from Beijing Normal University. Their presentations explored topics ranging from environmental big data to emerging technologies and sustainability-driven entrepreneurship.
Adding to the forum's depth, student representatives from Tongji University and Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology showcased their environmental science projects and shared valuable insights and experiences from their participation in the competition. Their engagement underscored the competition’s role as a vibrant platform for nurturing environmental talent and promoting academic collaboration.
