On August 31, 2023, Professor Lyu Peiming, Executive Vice President of Tongji University, held a cordial meeting with Pierre Boileau, the head of the Global Environment Outlook team from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and his team. Li Jing, Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Professor Xu Bin, Chairman of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, and other relevant leaders attended the event.
Prof. Lyu welcomed the visit of the Global Environment Outlook team from UNEP and thanked UNEP for its important support in the sustainable development of Tongji University. Pierre Boileau, head of the Global Environment Outlook of the UNEP, stated that Tongji University is one of the universities with the closest global cooperation with the UNEP. He thanked Tongji University for its strong support of the upcoming Shanghai conference and for further enriching the content of cooperation and deepening exchanges. In addition, the two sides discussed the preparations for the upcoming “Global Environmental Scientists Conference” to be held in Shanghai.
The “Global Environment Outlook” (GEO) series of reports is an important authoritative publication of the UNEP. It is a comprehensive report that reviews and analyzes global environmental conditions, trends, and prospects and has important guiding significance for global green development and the green future of mankind. Since 2017, Tongji University has participated in the Global Environment Outlook as a report-authoring unit and has served as the global vice-chair unit of the report since 2022.
