On September 9, 2023, a delegation from the Cambodian Ministry of Environment and the Royal University of Phnom Penh visited Tongji University. The visit was centered on the theme of “Strengthening Cooperation, Creating a Green Future.” The aim was to enhance Sino-Cambodian cooperation in the field of green low-carbon and sustainable development, and to take bilateral relations to a new level.
Professor Lou Yongqi, Vice President of the University, welcomed the Cambodian delegation on behalf of the university. He stated that Tongji University has always been actively open, and has continuously expanded its international cooperation. The foundation for cooperation between Europe and America is solid, and promoting cooperation with Cambodia is an important step in expanding Tongji University’s cooperative network and has significant strategic significance. Subsequently, representatives from Cambodia, Mr. Zhuoup Paris, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, and Mr. Nick Chandaris, Director of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Research Center at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, gave their comments. They emphasized the basic attitude of the Cambodian Ministry of Environment towards environmental issues and international cooperation, and introduced the development of a green low-carbon and sustainable development field at the Royal University of Phnom Penh.
The Cambodian delegation moved to the College of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tongji University for in-depth academic exchanges with college professors. During the laboratory visit, participants visited the State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse and underwent in-depth exchanges with experts and scholars in the laboratory. The representatives of both sides discussed pilot projects and talent training, and focused on the possibility of cooperation in the fields of net-zero carbon communities, water quality purification and pollution control, solid waste resource utilization, and waste-free cities. Both sides agreed that through joint research, experience sharing, and training programs, they could promote green low-carbon sustainable development.
The successful holding of this meeting marks a solid step in Sino-Cambodian cooperation in the field of environmental protection. Both sides will take this as an opportunity to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and jointly make positive contributions to building a beautiful green home and promoting regional prosperity.
