On November 27, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Third Dean’s Forum of Environment Schools was held online with a focus on Resource Recycling and Low-Carbon Development.
Mr. GUO Jing, Chairman of Board, BRI International Green Development Coalition, and Former Director-General, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Ecology and Environment; Mr. TANG Jiafu, Party Secretary and Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment; Ms. HUANG Hong, Vice Chairwoman of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Deputy Director of Shanghai Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs; Prof. Norhaiza Nordin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Prof. Adalberto Noyola; Representative to China; National Autonomous University of Mexico; and Prof. LYU Peiming, Executive Vice President of Tongji University attended the opening ceremony.
Prof. DUAN Ning, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, and Prof. David Chiaramonti, Vice Rector of Polytechnic University of Turin, made keynote presentations on the theme of real-time monitoring instruments implementing cleaner production in the copper smelting industry, energy economics, and low-carbon development.
At the closed-door alliance meeting, after careful discussion, five domestic and eight international universities were officially added as new members of the alliance. Finally, the alliance collectively discussed and officially released the Joint Research Proposal for the Green Belt and Road Initiative, marking the successful completion of the meeting.
In 2018, Tongji University initiated the Alliance of Environment Deans and launched Dean’s Forum of Environment Schools, aiming to forge a joint research network that could provide science and policy recommendations for green development, as well as sharing knowledge, data, and analysis through the South-South Cooperation mechanism. Since the inception of the Alliance of Environment Deans, 63 universities from 34 countries have collaborated in fruitful exchanges and cooperation activities.
