This department is called Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering in undergraduate program, and Municipal Engineering in postgraduate education. This department was established and started to enroll undergraduate and junior college students of Water Supply and Drainage in 1952. It began to enroll postgraduate students in 1957. This department got the first batch of degree granting right for master and doctor degrees of Municipal Engineering in 1981. Professor Yang Qin was among the first to be awarded the doctoral supervisor certificate in 1981. This department is the first batch of Postdoctoral Research Station and State Key Discipline.
The faculties in the department of Municipal Engineering have won quite a few national and provincial science and technology awards and have applied their research results in the construction, reconstruction, and expansion of waterworks and sewage treatment plants as well as in hydraulic analysis and operation of urban pipe network. These practices have achieved excellent social and
economic benefits.
The research fields in this discipline include novel theory and technology for water supply treatment, urban water resources and
optimization of water supply and drainage engineering design and operation, new theory and technology for sewage and wastewater treatment, building water supply and drainage municipal technology and engineering theory.
