Recently, Prof. Shun Mao’s lab from CESE published a paper titled “Nitrogen heterocyclic covalent organic frameworks for efficient H2O2 photosynthesis and in situ water treatment” in Nature Communications (2025, 16: 6943). This study designs four covalent organic framework-based photocatalysts with varying nitrogen atom configurations to tune their electronic and energy-band structures, which achieve an efficient H2O2 production in pure water without sacrificial agent or oxygen aeration. The constructed reactor under natural sunlight demonstrates continuous H2O2 generation performance for antibiotic degradation and long-lasting water disinfection. This study provides new insights into efficient photocatalytic H2O2 production and possible scalable applications for in situ water treatment.
