From June 9 to 10, 2025, the “2025 China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Week and Consultation on the China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Strategy and Action Framework 2026–2030” was successfully held at Tongji University. The event was jointly organized by the College of Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE) and the UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD). It received strong support from the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and was co-guided by the China-ASEAN Environmental Protection Cooperation Centre / Foreign Environmental Cooperation Centre of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, along with the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment.
The event was attended by Li Xia, Deputy Director of the China-ASEAN Environmental Protection Cooperation Centre / Foreign Environmental Cooperation Centre of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment; Chen Wei, Inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment; Heng Chanthoeun, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Policy and Strategy at the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia; Fu Jie, Researcher from the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China; and Wang Zhiwei, Dean of CESE. Each delivered insightful speeches, contributing to meaningful discussions on advancing China-ASEAN cooperation in environmental governance and shaping the strategic direction for the upcoming 2026–2030 action framework.



The event aimed to advance the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the directives of national leaders, foster consensus on cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in key areas such as green and sustainable development, promote the realization of practical cooperation initiatives, and support the formulation of the next phase of the "China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Strategy and Action Framework 2026–2030."
As part of the Cooperation Week, a series of thematic roundtable dialogues and capacity-building activities were conducted, including the “Regional Dialogue on Sustainable Energy Technologies and Climate Investment and Financing,” “China-ASEAN Biodiversity Finance and Sustainable Management Practices,” and the “Survey on Regional Sustainable Energy Technologies and Climate Investment and Financing.” In addition, the China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation National Focal Points Meeting was held concurrently, further reinforcing strategic dialogue and regional environmental collaboration.
