On June 30, 2024, the Third Shanghai Interdisciplinary Summit Forum on "Low-Carbon Development, Environmental Governance, and Health" was successfully held at the Hengshan Beijiao Hotel in Shanghai. The forum was hosted by the Tongji University Interdisciplinary Program on Low-Carbon Development, Environmental Governance, and Health, along with the Shanghai Peak Discipline on Environment and Ecology, and co-organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Fudan University and the College of Environmental and Chemical Engineering at Shanghai University of Electric Power.
The forum featured a main conference and four thematic sessions: "Environmental Carbon Neutrality," "Environmental Health," "Environmental Energy and Resource Utilization," and an Outstanding Graduate Student Reports session. Over 30 interdisciplinary academicians, experts, and scholars were invited to deliver keynote speeches and engage in academic exchanges on topics such as environmental carbon neutrality, environmental health, and energy and resource utilization. The event attracted over 300 participants, including faculty, students, alumni, and industry peers.
During the morning plenary session, keynote speakers included Professor Li Hexing, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and former President of Shanghai University of Electric Power; Professor Zhang Bing, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Vice President of Nanjing University of Finance and Economics; and Professor Huang Yongping, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The session was co-hosted by Professor Wang Lin, Chair of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Fudan University, and Professor Min Yulin, Dean of the College of Environmental and Chemical Engineering at Shanghai University of Electric Power.
In the afternoon, four parallel sessions were held, where more than 30 senior experts and scholars presented invited talks, showcasing cutting-edge advancements in interdisciplinary environmental studies. The sessions offered a platform for vibrant academic exchanges and discussions.
At the closing ceremony, Academician Zhao Dongyuan from Fudan University delivered a keynote speech titled "Innovation and Future Applications of Functional Mesoporous Materials," highlighting the concept of "small pores creating a big world." He discussed foundational research on mesoporous materials and their applications in energy, health, and the environment, as well as the critical directions for future innovation to align with the nation’s dual-carbon strategy.
The forum fostered interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in the environmental field, facilitating dynamic exchanges and partnerships among experts and scholars. By sparking ideas and advancing collective efforts, the event made significant contributions to the high-quality development of environmental and ecological disciplines.
