From April 4 to 6, 2024, the 2024 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Mid-Pacific Student Conference (MidPac 2024) was held in Sacramento, California. A water treatment team composed of three Environmental Engineering students and one student from the College of Civil Engineering secured third place after intense competition, ranking first among participating Chinese universities.
This year’s ASCE Mid-Pacific Student Conference attracted participation from 11 top universities in China and the United States, including the University of California, Berkeley; UC Davis; Sacramento State; San José State; Chico State; Tongji University; Zhejiang University; and Southeast University. The team comprised Environmental Engineering students Cao Yuxuan, Chen Jiaming, and Shen Weixin from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, alongside Ouyang Wenbo from the College of Civil Engineering, under the guidance of Professor Lu Zhibo and Associate Researcher Shi Jun.The team demonstrated exceptional expertise, teamwork, and innovation throughout the competition. They excelled in various stages, including the Design Report, a six-minute oral presentation in English, a four-minute Q&A session with judges, Poster Design, on-site Construction, and Treatment involving flocculation and filtration. Their outstanding performance earned unanimous praise from the judges.
