2021 National Summer School of TJU Environmental Science resumed offline. On July 21st, Mingjing Building welcomed 54 outstanding students from more than 40 universities nationwide. They stood out from nearly 500 applicants and got the opportunity to closely learn more about Tongji University and the Environmental Science major.
The opening ceremony of summer school was hosted by Department Director Qiu Yuping. Many leaders and guest professors came to the opening ceremony and communicated with students, such as Party Secretary General of Environmental Science and Engineering College, Liu Jianxiong, Vice Deans, Deng Huiping and Lu Zhibo, Vice Party Secretary General, Huang Qinghui, Deputy Director of Graduate School, Lin Sijie, and professor Chen Ling and Li Guangming. Professor Ling Lan and Associate Professor Yu Zhenyang were the head teachers of this summer school, and six graduate students volunteered to help.
On the first-day report of the frontiers of environmental science, teacher Zhang Hua introduced the general situation of the State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Recovery. Professors such as Lu Zhibo, Li Guangming, Lin Sijie, Fu Rongbing, Sheng Wenchao, Ling Lan, Meng Xiangzhou, Wang Ying, Hu Xialin, Liu Ying, Yu Zhenyang and Wang Hong took turns to introduce novel topics of polar environment chemistry, solid waste recycling, environmental microbiology, nanotoxicology and health, soil groundwater remediation, environmental energy chemistry, environmental electrochemistry, ecological remediation of river, passive sampling techniques, microbial safety of drinking water and etc., leading students to an academic feast. Visits of TJU History Museum and State Key Laboratory in the department were regular events of TJU summer school, which greatly deepened students' understanding of Tongji University and the Environmental Science major.
Over the next few days, students will also take the written test and second interviews, as well as discussing popular environmental issues and listening to experiences and campus stories of existing students. This four-day summer school will help students learn more about Tongji University, being familiar with the Environmental Science major, and build up their confidence of studying in TJU in future.
