The Fifth Shanghai Eco-Environment Youth Innovation Summit Forum was successfully held

On December 28, 2019, the Fifth Shanghai Eco-Environment Youth Innovation Summit Forum was successfully held in Tongji University. The forum aimed to combine the national strategy for the development of regional integration in the Yangtze River Delta, promote the important role of young researchers in China's ecological and environmental governance, and promote exchanges and cooperation among universities, research institutes, enterprises and administrative departments, This forum was jointly held by Tongji University, FuDan University, Shanghai JiaoTong University, East China Normal university, East China University of Science and Technology, Donghua University, Shanghai University, and Shanghai Electric Power University. And it was undertaken by College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji university, Shanghai Institute of Pollution Control and Ecological Security, State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Research. There were representatives from more than 30 universities, research institutions and enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta region attending the forum, more than 260 people participated in the meeting. 

There are many leaders attending this forum: including Academicians Duan Ning from College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University, Professor WuJiang, Executive Vice President of Tongji University and Professor Yu Hanqing from College of  Chemistry and Materials Science Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, Director Zheng Guanghong from Social Development Division of the Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, Director Zhu Huifeng from Shanghai Water Supply Management Office, Deputy Director Tang Qinghe from the Ecological Environment of Shanghai Bureau of Comprehensive Planning, Dean Ying Guangguo from Environmental Institute in South China Normal, leaders from colleges and universities of Environmental and Ecological Class IV Peak Disciplines in Shanghai, the Council leaders from College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University etc. 

The forum consists of four special guest reports and five sub- forums. The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Liu Jianxiong, Chair of Council of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University. Professor WuJiang, Executive Vice President of Tongji University, gave a welcome speech in the opening ceremony and expressed his thanks to the guests and scholars engaged in the forum, he pointed out that, the forum was designed to promote young researchers to play an important role in the ecological environment governance in our country, to take this forum as a platform, there could be increased cooperation and communication between young scientists from colleges and universities, research institutes, enterprises, and management departments, business, as well as industry. further the innovation in Shanghai environmental and ecological Ⅳ peak discipline talents cultivation could be promoted, intelligence, wisdom, and talents support could be provided for ecological civilization Construction in our country.  Director Zheng Guanghong from Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, also held a speech to address opinions for construction of Shanghai Science and Innovation Center as well as how science and technology could lead integration of the Yangtze River Delta regional. He put forward that, we should follow the national strategic layout, focus on Shanghai's responsibility and mission, and strive to continue making Shanghai a comprehensive functional platform of internationalization, marketization, informationization as well as financialization. 

Subsequently, Academician Duan Ning published a special report entitled "Cleaner Production: From Concept to Engineering", in which he introduced in detail the current development status of cleaner production in China, the significance of cleaner production, and the fundamental role of reducing pollution from the source in promoting environmental protection. Prof. Yu Hanqing introduced the discovery and development of Shiva bacteria, and discussed the research progress and great potential of the bacteria in technology for water pollution control. Combined with practical examples, director Zhu Huifeng introduced the relevant situation of Shanghai's drinking water source area, the significance of implementing east Taihu Water diversion for Shanghai's water security and the service function for the Yangtze River Delta's interconnected development. Director Tang Qinghe comprehensively and carefully introduced the basic condition of the ecological environment work in Shanghai in the past few years and the current stage achievements in his report, and further mentioned the environmental challenges and countermeasures in the future. 

In the afternoon, the reports of the sub-forum were held in the conference room of Mingjing Building, with the themes of "Advanced Environmental Technology", "Environmental Ecology and Health", "Smart Environmental Protection", "New environmental Energy", " Leaders in Scientific Research and Pioneers in Science Popularization". More than 20 outstanding young scholars from all over the country gave wonderful speeches and reports. Teachers and students actively asked questions and had in-depth exchanges and discussions with the lecturers, which created a "wonderful" spark.

The sub-forum of "Leaders in Scientific Research and Pioneers in Science Popularization" discussed over innovative ecological and environmental education in terms of what universities are good at, what K12 schools need and what ordinary people want to know. At the same time,  in corporation of City Jiaxing with red culture, relying on "ecological civilization education and environment science innovation” team of the Shanghai Environment and Ecology Class IV Peak Subject, we set up a “ecological civilization education teachers group”, aiming to explore about Yangtze river delta region, safeguard the ecological environment's practical, in-depth to medium (young) in the integration of education and promote the richness and transformation of the roles of leaders of scientific research as well as the popular science forerunners. Tongji University has also set up "Tongji -- Tianxingjian Ecological Civilization Education Fund" in conjunction with Tianjian Water Group (Hangzhou) Co., LTD., with a rolling support of 100,000 yuan per year, Tongji University has implemented the scientific popularization activities that are of common concern to the whole society. 

After the sub-forum, young scientists from different universities and environmental protection workers from participating enterprises had sufficient communications on technical needs, future forms and contents of cooperation, and reached an agreement that it was urgent to establish a regular communication mode, promote industry-university-research cooperation in the environmental protection industry, and promote mutual benefit and win-win results. 

In addition, at the roundtable meeting, the representatives of young teachers from various universities in Shanghai exchanged their experience in organizing the meeting and the preparatory work for the next meeting. The organizer of the next Shanghai Environment Youth Forum will be East China Normal University.
