Asia’s First Youth Take on Shape of the Environment in Region

23 February 2018, Singapore/Shanghai – For the first time, young people from Asia Pacific will articulate critical scientific data on the state of the environment in the region in a way that resonates with their peers. Twelve young people met in Singapore this week to kick-off preparations for a lighter and youth-oriented version of the UN Environment Regional Assessment for Asia Pacific. First Authors’ Meeting of GEO-6 for Youth, Asia-Pacific was held in parallel to the 4th Authors’ Meeting of GEO-6 global assessment in Singapore from 19 to 23 Feb 2018.

Tongji University participates in this youth report as a main partner. Prof. Fengting LI, Deputy Dean of UN Environment-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development attended the first authors’ meeting of GEO-6 for Youth, Asia-Pacific on behalf of Tongji University. Prof. Ying WANG from Tongji works as coordinating lead author in the report and she is also a GEO Fellow who’s already supporting the on-going global GEO-6 process. The Second Authors’ Meeting of GEO-6 for Youth, Asia-Pacific would be hosted by Tongji University in Shanghai in parallel to International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability, June 2018.

The Asia Pacific assessment is one of five regional reports on the health of the environment that will feed into the 6th Global Environment Outlook. The youth version of the Asia Pacific assessment, slated for release at the end of this year, will include the latest information and updated data on the findings of the report, and priority and emerging issues in the region.
