The 8th IWA Regional Membrane Technology Conference Successfully Held in Shanghai

From August 26 to 29, the 8th IWA Regional Membrane Technology Conference (IWA-RMTC 2026) was successfully held in Shanghai. The conference was hosted by Tongji University and co-organized by the State Key Laboratory of Water Pollution Control and Green Resource Recycling, the Key Laboratory of Yangtze River Water Environment of the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Institute for Pollution Control and Ecological Security, the Tongji University–German Environmental Center, and the Innovative Introducing Talent Base for Pollution Control and Resource Recovery, among other institutions. Dr. Li Tao, IWA Global Vice President; Professor Zhang He, Vice Dean of the Office of Scientific Research and Development at Tongji University; and Professor How Yong Ng, Chair of the IWA Membrane Technology Specialist Group and Professor at Beijing Normal University, delivered opening remarks respectively. Professor Wang Zhiwei, Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University, served as Conference Chair.

The conference attracted over 260 experts, scholars, and young students from 23 countries and regions, promoting the interdisciplinary integration of materials science, process engineering, environmental science, and artificial intelligence. It advanced ongoing developments in membrane material innovation, process intensification, resource recovery, and intelligent operation, providing an important platform for exploring smarter, more resilient, and sustainable water resource management solutions.
