On December 27, 2024, the Ministry of Education held the National Education Digitalization Work Summary Conference. Minister Huai Jinpeng attended the meeting and delivered an important speech, accompanied by Vice Ministers Wu Yan and Wang Guangyan. Minister Huai emphasized the strategic significance of education digitalization, urging the education system to uphold its political, public, and strategic attributes while advancing related initiatives with unwavering confidence and determination. During the conference, Vice Minister Wu Yan presented certificates for notable achievements. The virtual simulation experiment project "Eco-remediation of Heavy Metal Pollution in Farmland Soil", was selected as one of the first high-quality resources to be included in the National Smart Education Public Service Platform. Professor Liu Jia, the course leader, attended the event as a representative of resource providers for the National Primary and Secondary School Smart Education Platform. She received the certificate from Vice Minister Wu Yan. A total of 12 individual and institutional representatives attended the ceremony, including only four representatives from higher education nationwide.

The course integrates multidisciplinary knowledge from environmental restoration, environmental ecology, agricultural resources and environment, and geotechnical engineering. It combines theoretical teaching, experimental training, process design, and engineering implementation into a comprehensive virtual simulation experiment. Students engage in independent projects and team collaborations in virtual scenarios, achieving a full-cycle learning experience that strengthens their understanding of farmland soil heavy metal pollution and remediation. The course aims to enhance students' theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities related to complex environmental challenges.
Since its launch on a national teaching platform in 2019, the course has gained widespread attention across disciplines such as environmental science, engineering, civil engineering, ecological restoration, and soil science. It has been accessed over 258,000 times by users nationwide, with universities such as Tongji University, Shanghai University of Electric Power, Qinghai University, Xinjiang Normal University, and Qufu Normal University incorporating it as a mandatory course. At Tongji University, more than 5,000 student hours have been recorded, averaging over 1,000 hours annually.
