On October 17, 2024, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission announced the results of the Shanghai finals for the 2024 China International Student Innovation Competition. Our college secured an impressive 4 gold awards, 3 silver awards, and 2 bronze awards, showcasing the outstanding innovation capabilities of Tongji students in scientific research and practical applications.
As a premier platform for university students from China and abroad to showcase and exchange innovative achievements, the China International Student Innovation Competition has drawn active participation from top talents at numerous universities. Our college placed great emphasis on this competition, closely following its progress from start to finish. A record-breaking 47 project teams from the college successfully registered, with the number of participants reaching an all-time high. After intense competition and rigorous evaluation by the expert panel, several projects from our college stood out.
Among these, four projects were awarded gold for their unique insights and advanced technologies in the field of environmental science and technology. Additionally, three projects received silver awards, and two projects won bronze.
One of the gold-winning projects, “Zero Trace—Pioneering Advanced Reverse Osmosis Membranes,” addressed the inefficiency of domestically produced reverse osmosis membranes in removing trace-neutral small-molecule pollutants. The team developed ultra-high precision screening reverse osmosis membrane materials, achieving breakthroughs in both high-efficiency pollutant removal and water-saving energy efficiency. This project originated from a National Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program and was supported by the Coland Environmental Education Scholarship.

The project "In-situ Oxidation Remediation and Safe Utilization Technology for Highly Contaminated Pesticide Sites in the Yangtze River Delta" addresses the technical challenges of pesticide-contaminated sites. The team developed an advanced oxidation technology based on green nanomaterials, achieving a safe pathway for coordinated control of carbon and pollutants. This technology has already been demonstrated in Jiangsu and other regions, showcasing strong versatility and significant potential for broader application and promotion.

The project "Unified Smart Water—Intelligent Diagnosis and Operation Scheduling Solutions for Water Supply Networks" addresses the challenges of intelligent diagnostics in water supply network engineering. The team developed the first domestic AI-powered intelligent diagnostic system, integrating advanced features to provide robust support for urban water supply safety.

The project "Pure Water Solutions—Leader in Precision Detection of Organic Pollutants in Ultrapure Water" focuses on the domestic replacement of high-precision TOC analyzers. The team has achieved breakthroughs in several core technologies, accelerating the process of domestic substitution. The technology holds broad application prospects in industries such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and aerospace.

These award-winning projects not only demonstrate the research and innovation capabilities of Tongji students but also make significant contributions to advancing technology in related fields and promoting social development. Tongji University will continue to uphold the spirit of innovation, striving to cultivate more high-caliber talent with global perspectives and strong innovative abilities.
