From August 22 to 24, 2024, the Tongji University session of the China-Japan-Korea Regional Environment and Sustainable Development Certificate Program (RESD) Doctoral Summer School was successfully held. The theme of this year’s summer school was "Sustainable Urban Water Systems." It brought together 10 doctoral student representatives from seven renowned universities in China, Japan, and Korea, including Tongji University, Tsinghua University, Kanazawa University, Tohoku University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST).
On the morning of August 22, Vice Dean Lu Zhibo delivered the opening speech, warmly welcoming the students from participating universities. He also provided an overview of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tongji University, highlighting its history, talent development, teaching, research, and international collaborations. In the afternoon, Professors Yin Hailong and Li Lei delivered academic lectures, followed by a presentation by Professor Jia Qian, who introduced Tongji University's initiatives in education and research related to environmental sustainability. After the lectures, doctoral students Mohammed Abiola Akanbi and He Yingying shared their respective research work, sparking enthusiastic discussions with their peers on the forum’s central theme.
As the final stop of the 2024 RESD program, Tongji University hosted the closing certificate ceremony. Dean Wang Zhiwei presented participation certificates, jointly signed by the seven universities and research institutions, to the attendees. He emphasized that the RESD program has strengthened academic exchanges among young environmental scholars from China, Japan, and Korea, and encouraged the participants to achieve even greater success in the field of environment and sustainable development in the future.
