On May 28, 2024, progress meeting for the "14th Five-Year Plan" Higher Education Textbook System in the green and environmental protection field was held. The event, hosted at Beijing Normal University, aimed to explore the development of a scientific, systematic, and cutting-edge higher education textbook system for this field.
Wang Ming, a member of the Party Committee, Vice President of Beijing Normal University, and Director of the Textbook Research Institute, attended the meeting and delivered an opening speech. The meeting invited experts, including Academician Yang Zhifeng and Academician Zhu Lizhong, to provide guidance. Nearly 50 participants from over 20 institutions, including universities, publishers, and enterprises, attended the conference. The event was co-hosted by Project Leader Professor Dai Xiaohu and Xu Linyu, Chairman of the College of Environment Council at Beijing Normal University.
Vice President Wang Ming introduced the history of textbook development and the evolution of the environmental discipline at Beijing Normal University. He emphasized that textbook development reflects national will and core values, serving as a critical foundation for talent cultivation and a strategic project vital to future development. Professor Shen Zhenyao, Dean of the College of Environment at Beijing Normal University, expressed the college's honor in contributing to the research and practice of building a new textbook system for emerging fields. She noted the importance of prioritizing originality, cutting-edge content, and practicality in textbook development, integrating the latest research findings and academic insights to meet students' learning needs.
Chen Zhengxiong, Deputy Director of Higher Education Press, delivered a speech, affirming the press's commitment to empowering textbook development. He highlighted the role of technological innovation and application in helping textbook teams create intelligent textbook systems and modernized learning environments.
During the presentation session, participating experts shared their experiences in textbook compilation and explored future pathways for development. Vice Dean Lu Zhibo presented the progress report on behalf of the textbook team. Following the presentation, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on the opportunities and challenges in textbook development.
In his concluding remarks, Professor Dai Xiaohu, the textbook team leader, extended gratitude to the attending experts for their guidance, to the publishers for their support, and to the faculty for their hard work. He pledged to incorporate the valuable suggestions provided by the experts, ensuring that the textbooks not only showcase cutting-edge knowledge but also maintain rigorous content standards. Professor Dai emphasized that building a comprehensive textbook system is a gradual process requiring collective effort, collaboration, and dedication to advancing the project with high quality and efficiency.
