On July 1, 2023, the second Shanghai “Low-Carbon Development, Environmental Governance, and Health” Interdisciplinary Summit Forum was held at the Shanghai Songjiang Fuyue Hotel. It was hosted by the Tongji University Low-Carbon Development, Environmental Governance, and Health Interdisciplinary Group and the Shanghai City Environmental and Ecological Peak Discipline, and organized by the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology, and School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Donghua University. The summit forum set up a main venue, and four special sessions of “Environment and Energy, Environment and Health, Resources and Environmental Materials, and excellent graduate student reports,” inviting more than thirty cross-disciplinary academicians, experts, and graduate students to give invited reports, jointly discussing the interdisciplinary integration and innovative development of “low-carbon development, environmental governance, and health.”
During the morning section, Academician Zhu Meifang, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Donghua University, gave a keynote speech on “Research and Prospects of Environmental Materials under Low-Carbon Goals,” focusing on the high-value application of high-performance biomass-derived materials based on the functionalization and high-value preparation of lignin-based fibers, and pointed out the important development direction of green new materials facing the national dual-carbon strategy demand at a strategic level. Professor Wang Hualin, Dean of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering at East China University of Science and Technology, gave a keynote speech on “Green Manufacturing and Utilization of Hydrogen Energy,” introducing the background and progress of the construction of the Ministry of Education’s “Key Core Technology for Green Manufacturing and Utilization of Hydrogen Energy” platform, striving to build the “135” project, supporting the talent demand and industrial development of hydrogen energy technology, and helping to achieve the “dual carbon” goal. Professor Kan Haidong gave a keynote speech on “Air Pollution, Climate Change, and Public Health under the ‘Dual Carbon’ Background,” introducing the current research status and future trends of air pollution, climate change, and public health under the ‘dual carbon’ goal background. Professor Dai Jiayin gave a keynote speech on ‘Identification and Health Effects of New Perfluorinated Compounds,’ comprehensively expounding the pollution characteristics and their abnormal association with liver and kidney function damage and reproductive development, providing a scientific basis for the selection and risk screening of perfluorinated compound substitutes.
In the afternoon, the ‘Environment and Energy Cross,’ ‘Environment and Health Cross, ‘‘Resources and Environmental Materials,’ and excellent graduate student report four special sessions were held in parallel. Nearly 30 senior experts and outstanding young scholars from the School of Environmental Science and Technology, Shanghai University, Shanghai Ocean University, Southeast University, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Nanjing Institute of Soil, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other units were invited to give invited reports, covering the cross of multiple disciplines, such as environment and energy, environment and health, resources, and environmental materials. The reporters showed many cutting-edge achievements in the environmental discipline, bringing together an academic feast of cross-disciplinary directions. This interdisciplinary summit forum promoted the interdisciplinary integration of ‘low-carbon development, environmental governance, and health,’ promoted cross-disciplinary exchange and discussion among experts and scholars, and built a communication platform for the development of environmental and ecological disciplines and cross-disciplines."
