On February 28, 2024, the kick-off meeting and implementation plan demonstration meeting of the project “Research and Application Demonstration of Key Technologies for Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction of Municipal Water Supply and Drainage Facilities,” a key project of the National Key R&D Program “Key Technologies and Equipment for Urban Sustainable Development,” was successfully held in Shanghai. Academician Tong Xiaohua, Vice President of Tongji University, delivered a welcomed speech. Feng Shijin, the Director of the Research Management Department of Tongji University, hosted this meeting. Professor Wang Zhiwei, the project leader, and more than 40 people attended meetings.

Professor Tong Xiaohua extended cordial greetings to the leaders and experts who directed the project. Chen Xin, Inspector of the Standard Quota Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, introduced the project's significance and tasked the project team with developing a good implementation plan, forming a landmark major achievement that truly solves practical problems, and providing replicable and promotable technologies and solutions for promoting low-carbon development in the water industry.

Sun Xinzhang, Deputy Director of the Strategic Department of the 21st Century Agenda Management Center, affirmed the preliminary work of the project team, and put forward requirements and suggestions for the next step of project implementation. Chen Wei, Deputy Director of the Water Affairs Department of the City Construction Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, pointed out that energy saving and carbon reduction of municipal water supply and drainage is an important content of the green development of the water industry.

At the implementation plan demonstration meeting, Professor Wang Zhiwei, the project leader, reported the project implementation plan from six aspects including project background and key issues, research objectives and technical routes, and each subject undertaking unit reported the subject implementation plan respectively. Master Zhang Chen of Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Research Institute presided over the project expert demonstration session, and the experts of the Project Expert Consultation Committee conducted full inquiries and put forward valuable opinions and suggestions.
