From June 22 to 29, 2014, 17 teachers and students from the University of Hong Kong visited and participated in the "Tongji University - Hong Kong University Environmental and Ecological Conservation Summer Camp" organized by our college.
This summer camp activity was jointly initiated by teacher Wang Rui from the Department of Environmental Science of our college and Dr. Caroline Dingle of the University of Hong Kong at the end of 2013. After more than half a year of careful planning, an exchange visit plan with the theme of "Environment and Ecological Conservation" was established. The two-week period is divided into two parts: the first phase (June 22-29), the teachers and students of the University of Hong Kong visit our school; the second phase (July 4-10), the teachers and students of our school go to Hong Kong University visits and exchanges. With the support and assistance of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of our university, the activity was approved to be funded by the Ministry of Education by the "Hong Kong and Mainland Higher School Teacher-Student Exchange Program Project".
During the one-week activity that Hong Kong masters and students came to our college, teachers, and students of the two schools carried out a series of activities focusing on the three themes of "Environmental Pollution and Control", "Biodiversity and Ecological Conservation", and "Green Building and Energy Saving and Emission Reduction", including academic lectures on environmental protection (twice, 9 related reports in total), ecological conservation tour (Chongming Island Dongtan Wetland Park and bird Sanctuary), green architecture tour (bionic design workshop, Tongji Architectural Design Institute), energy-saving and low-carbon tour (Shanghai Environmental Energy Exchange, Shanghai Science and Energy Saving Exhibition Hall), environmental technology inspection (Yangshupu Water Plant), etc. In the process of the activity, teachers and students from the College of Environment of our school and the University of Hong Kong conducted in-depth communication and Discussion on energy conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable development from multiple perspectives.
The activity was strongly supported by teachers such as Vice President Deng Huiping, Professor Chen Ling, associate professor Lei Pushi of Tongji Institute of Design and Creativity, as well as the active participation and assistance of many volunteer students from our college. students from our school and the University of Hong Kong major in environmental issues have improved their understanding of environmental issues, deepened the mutual understanding between Hong Kong and the mainland youths, and promoted the future cooperation in teaching and scientific research between Tongji and HKU.
