China and Germany jointly held the "the National Water Pollution Control and Treatment Science and Technology Major Project" international cooperation project kick-off meeting at Tongji University

On March 11-12, 2019,   Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MOST), the Ministry   of Ecology and   Environment of the People’s Republic of China (MEE) and the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung   (BMBF) jointly held the "Sino-German-the   National Water Pollution Control and Treatment Science and Technology Major   Project-IntenKS Launching Meeting" at Tongji University in   Shanghai. The conference was jointly led by the National Science and   Technology Major Project and Division of   International Cooperation of Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung.   More than 50 representatives from Chinese and German government departments,   research institutions, universities and enterprises actively participated in   the conference. Participating experts and scholars conducted in-depth   exchanges and discussions on the implementation and promotion of   international scientific and technological cooperation in sludge treatment   and disposal and resource utilization. They visited the Bailonggang sewage   treatment plant where the international cooperation pilot base is located.   The meeting was a complete success.

Global attention to water   environment issues. Strengthening international scientific and technological   cooperation, and coordinated resolution of major issues are of great   practical significance. In 2015, the Ministry of Science and Technology of   the People’s Republic of China and the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung signed the "Joint   Statement of Intent on Scientific and Technological Cooperation on China's   "Water Pollution Control and Governance" Science and Technology   Special Project", and carried out a series of fruitful cooperative   research under this framework. At present, China's major "Water   Pollution Control and Governance" project is at a critical period of the   "13th Five-Year Plan" mission. The German International Partnership   on Sustainable Innovation (CLIENT) is also collecting a new round of projects   for review. Taking this kick-off meeting as an opportunity, China and Germany   conducted candid exchanges and reached consensus on how to establish a more   efficient cooperation promotion mechanism, the "13th Five-Year   Plan" cooperation priorities and follow-up work goals. The meeting was a   complete success.

In the next few years, the   Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China,   Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China,   Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of   China and the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung will carry out more   pragmatic exchanges and cooperation, focusing on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei   region and the Taihu Lake Basin, and jointly select funding for bottlenecks   in water pollution control Cooperation projects, establish an   institutionalized cooperation mechanism, strengthen the substantive exchanges   between policy makers, technology developers, and business managers of the   two countries, and promote the implementation and effectiveness of   international cooperation in the Sino-German water project.
